Christian Symbols

Christianity. Christian symbols. Church. The ancient symbol

The symbolism of the early Church was characterised by being understood by a small number of founders only, while after the legalisation of Christianity in the 4th-century more recognisable symbols entered in use. Christianity has borrowed from the common stock of significant symbols known to most periods and to all regions of the world.
Not all of the symbols were created purely as a Christian notion. Many of the symbols we currently associate with Christianity actually date back much further than Christ himself, and were in fact adopted along the way to help followers explain and communicate their religion.
