Hinduism is a religion that raises the status of Mother to the level of near Goddess. Therefore, the cow is considered a sacred animal, as it provides us life sustaining milk.
Hindus regard all living creatures as sacred. They acknowledge the reverence for life in a special affection for the cow. At festivals they decorate and honour the cow, but do not worship it in the sense that they worship the Deity.
The cow is seen to be incredibly generous, taking nothing but water, grass and grain, and in return gives its milk constantly. The cow is so vital to life, the virtual sustainer of life, for many humans. The cow is a symbol of grace and abundance.
