In the Celtic language, the word “Awen” is thought to mean essence or inspiration. The awen appears in many Welsh tales and lore. The symbol its self is thought by many to symbolise the balance between men and women. Where as many look into it a little further by embracing the number 3 that is prominent within the symbolism. The number three is important in many cultures, representing the land, sky and sea, also underworld, middle world and upper world.
The Druids have adopted this symbol more apparently and identify the meaning to be a 'flowing spirit' and say that 'Spirit energy in flow is the essence of life'.
